Hi Everyone!

The Civic Long Weekend is upon us. That means a lot more people are on the road going to their cottages or just trying to get out of the city for the weekend. Remember to relax, drive with the speed of traffic, pay attention, and eventually you will get there safe and sound.

Like every long weekend, the Ontario Provincial Police takes the opportunity to have a safety blitz and this weekend is no different.

We are here to pass on a message from the Ontario Provincial Police for the civic long weekend! Let’s keep emergency responders safe this holiday weekend! Don’t forget to leave one (1) lane when you pass emergency vehicles stopped at the side of the road! If you don’t you can receive a fine from $400 to $2,000 and three (3) demerit points!

PS: If you haven’t already figured it out, this is what the OPP will be focusing on and enforcing this civic long weekend, so make sure you do MOVE OVER! Show the respect first responders deserve!

While the Highway Traffic Act currently only covers emergency vehicles with the “Move Over Law”, which is great, we ask that one go one step further! If anyone is stopped on the side of the road, such as tow truck drivers, road workers, or a citizen, slow down and try to move over one lane! Remember that could be you out there changing the tire when cars are whizzing past at 100km/h. Show that person the same courtesy you think you deserve if that was you out there!

This Civic Long Weekend, don’t forget the usual charges:

Don’t think this is the only thing the OPP will be looking for this civic long weekend. They will be cracking down on the usual charges such as speeding, not wearing a seat belt, distracted driving, and driving while intoxicated.

Hope everyone has a great civic long weekend and stay safe! Don’t forget to buckle up!
