9 Caledon Traffic Ticket FAQs: Court, POA & Fines

The Caledon Provincial Offences (POA) Court handles all traffic tickets and provincial offences matters for the Town of Caledon, Bolton, and the County of Dufferin. The court is located at 6311 Old Church Road, Caledon East, with free public parking available on-site.

If you received a traffic ticket from Caledon OPP, Dufferin OPP, or Shelburne Police, your matter will be heard at this court (ICON Code: 0661). Provincial offences matters for the Orangeville area are administered through the Dufferin office at 55 Zina Street, Orangeville. Below, we answer the most common questions about Caledon traffic tickets, from how to request disclosure, to paying your ticket online, to attending court by Zoom. If your question isn’t answered here, call us at 905-738-7171 for a free consultation.

How to Request Disclosure for a Caledon Traffic Ticket

Disclosure is a copy of the evidence that the prosecution and police have collected about your offence. This typically includes the officer’s notes, any witness statements, and details about any speed detection device used (such as radar or laser).

If you plan to fight your Caledon traffic ticket — whether through early resolution or a trial — requesting disclosure is an important first step. It allows you or your paralegal to review the evidence before your court date.

To request disclosure for a Caledon traffic ticket, you can submit the online disclosure request form at caledon.ca/legal . You will need:

• Your full name

• The offence number from your ticket

• Your contact information (email, phone, or fax)

Disclosure typically takes 6 to 8 weeks to be ready. It can take longer if any information is missing from your request. Once ready, disclosure will be sent to you by email (if you provided one), or you can pick it up in person at Town Hall at 6311 Old Church Road, Caledon East.

If you were charged with speeding by a Caledon or Dufferin OPP officer and the officer used a radar or laser device, you can also request a copy of the relevant device manual through the same disclosure process.

Need help understanding your disclosure or preparing for your court date? Call Sturino Walker Legal Services at 905-738-7171 for a free consultation. When you hire us, we handle the entire disclosure process for you.

Caledon POA Court: What You Need to Know

POA stands for the Provincial Offences Act. The Caledon POA court is where traffic tickets, speeding tickets, parking tickets, and other provincial offences are heard. It is not a criminal court; provincial offences are regulatory matters, and a conviction does not give you a criminal record.

The Caledon POA court is located at 6311 Old Church Road, Caledon East, ON L7C 1J6. It is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays.

When you attend the Caledon POA court, your matter will be heard by a Justice of the Peace (not a judge). The prosecutor presents the evidence against you, and you (or your paralegal) have the opportunity to challenge it. Most traffic ticket trials take 15 to 30 minutes.

The Caledon POA court also administers provincial offences for the County of Dufferin through a satellite office at 55 Zina Street, Orangeville, ON L9W 1E5.

Contact the Caledon POA court at 905-584-2273 or by email at [email protected]. For more information, visit caledon.ca/poa.

Can I Attend Caledon Court by Zoom?

Yes. The Caledon Provincial Offences court does offer Zoom hearings for certain matters. If you have a court date scheduled via Zoom, the court will provide you with the Zoom link and details.

For questions about whether your matter can be heard by Zoom, contact the Caledon POA court at 905-584-2273 or email [email protected]. When you hire Sturino Walker Legal Services, we attend court on your behalf, whether in person or by Zoom. You do not need to take a day off work or appear at all. Call us at 905-738-7171 for a free consultation.

Caledon Parking Tickets: How to Pay or Dispute

Caledon parking tickets are different from traffic tickets. A parking ticket is a municipal by-law infraction, while a traffic ticket is a provincial offence under the Highway Traffic Act. Parking tickets do not carry demerit points and do not go on your driving record.

To pay a Caledon parking ticket, you have the following options:

• In person at the Caledon Provincial Offences Court at 6311 Old Church Road, Caledon East

• By mail – send a cheque or money order payable to the Town of Caledon

If you want to dispute a Caledon parking ticket, you can request a trial by completing the form on the back of the ticket or by contacting the court at 905-584-2273. A Justice of the Peace will hear your case and determine whether the ticket was issued correctly.

3 Reasons To Fight Your Caledon Traffic Ticket

1. Protect Your Demerit Points

The Ministry of Transportation Ontario tracks demerit points on every driver’s licence. For fully licensed (G) drivers, accumulating 9 points triggers a warning letter from the MTO, and 15 points results in a 30-day licence suspension. G1 drivers can be suspended at just 4 points, and G2 drivers at 6 points. Fighting your Caledon traffic ticket gives you the chance to have the charge withdrawn or reduced to a lesser offence that carries fewer or no demerit points.

2. Keep Your Insurance Rates Low

While your Caledon traffic ticket is working its way through the court process, it does not appear on your driving record. Your insurance company has no way of knowing the ticket exists until you are convicted. If the charge is withdrawn, dismissed, or reduced to a non-moving violation, your insurer may never find out. A single major conviction like careless driving can increase your insurance premiums significantly for up to three years, fighting the ticket is almost always worth the effort.

3. Avoid a Licence Suspension

Some traffic tickets carry automatic licence suspensions that the officer who issued the ticket may not tell you about. Stunt driving, for example, comes with an immediate 30-day roadside suspension. Even accumulating too many minor tickets can push you past the demerit point threshold. The only way to protect your licence is to fight the ticket at the Caledon POA court. A licensed paralegal can appear on your behalf, negotiate with the prosecutor, and work toward the best possible outcome.
